On photography - faith

Faith! That’s all you need! Faith!
Faith in Nature and the way it works!
Faith in science and its knowledge!
Faith in yourself and your ability to do things!
That’s all you need! Faith!

Oh, I almost forgot:
You also need a DSLR camera, a tripod, an old body cap that you can waste (black one), a piece of thin cardboard, some tape, glue, some aluminum foil (kitchen type), scissors and some pins (just in case you let one fall out there on the street). If you take with you a bag full of patience, it will help.

Cut the inside of de body cap. On the outside glue the cardboard in a very flatten way.
On its center cut a small hole, with some 5mm or so. Then, tape a little piece of aluminum foil, as flat as you can. The tape has to be just on the borders, not all over it.
And, just on the middle, make a tiny little hole with the pin. Very gentle, so that it will not get hard borders on the inside.
You may need to build another set, in order to get another hole, smaller or larger. But the smaller it is, the sharper picture you will get.

Take off the lens of your camera and put instead what you have just build.
Chose a bright day and use the camera on the tripod. Have the sun on your back. I’ve never seen anything so dreadful as this to produce flares!
I don’t know if I told you before, but you also need patience. Lots of it. In order to see trough the viewfinder when there is almost nothing to be seen. And do tests. Lots of tests! Tests on framing (you can’t see, remember?) and tests on exposure.
All this will depend also on the camera and its characteristics. As for me, having a Pentax, I use manual exposure, allow the camera to work with a non automatic lens and select manual focus.
For this photograph, I use ISO 200, 1/8 of second. Later, I played a little with its gamma curve, increasing just a bit its contrast.

Did I told you that yesterday was the “world’s day of pinhole photography” and that this was done to celebrate it?
